About Us
The story of Shivavartan
From a handful of students in a courtyard to a pathak that fills entire streets with sound.
Shivavartan began with a simple frustration: the old taal were fading. A small group borrowed two dhols and a tasha, found an empty ground, and started practising after college hours. Neighbours came to watch. Then they came to play.
Today the pathak fields hundreds of trained players across dhol, tasha, zanj, lezim and dhwaj, performing through Ganeshotsav, cultural festivals and competitions — and training the next generation year-round.
Mission
To preserve and popularise traditional dhol tasha percussion by training disciplined, respectful players and delivering performances that move crowds without losing the purity of the taal.
Vision
A pathak recognised nationally for its craft, and a community where every young person has a place, a rhythm and a reason to stand tall.
Legacy
Twelve seasons, five hundred performances and hundreds of alumni who learned their first taal here — many now teaching in pathaks of their own.
